Balance

What is balance?

As I think about balance in my life I cannot help but think about the word "balance" and all it entails. When really thinking about it to me it means finding the middle ground where you are not at any one of the possible extremes.

Something that made me laugh this morning was a photo my daughter had taken of a slogan on a mug, it said "A balanced diet is having a cookie in both hands!"

Funny but also an extreme, what I took away from it was the thought that if both the extremes you are trying to keep in balance are too far apart then even having balance in your life doesn't make it better.

Imagine that you work long hours, they are so long you fall asleep driving home from work, you then rationalize that to bring balance to your life you need to play hard as well, so you go out dancing all night coming home exhausted.

You may have balance between work and play getting an equal amount of both but is the balance healthy? probably not.

Achieving balance is more than just finding the middle ground, it is finding what is healthy for us, what helps us achieve our long term goals and what helps us grow as an individual, when all factors are taken in to account then we can find the right balance in our lives.

So I would encourage you to think about balance in all that you do, but also give thought to if the balance you are wanting to achieve is healthy. Finding balance, Just another opportunity in this journey called life...
