The Shrinking World

For those expecting a climate change post this is not the environmental type, more the communication type...

Having friends all over the world used to mean a lot of money spent on stamps with conversations taking weeks by mail, letters would be lost so then there were gaps in the conversation, but in the last few years all that is changed. No longer do we have to get Photo's developed put them in the mail, or even pick up the phone to call when something exciting happens. Instead we pick up a mobile device or go to a PC and MMS, text, tweet or post it on Facebook, we can upload a photo in seconds.

If we want to actually speak to someone we can use Skype or Facetime where we can not only speak to them but can see them and they too can be a part of the event as it happens or the immediate aftermath. The world is shrinking and because of the easy to use tools communication is instant rather than delayed. An event in one country is known across the world in seconds not hours, days or weeks.

The number of people in the world who have grown up with email, texts and social media is large and growing everyday, for them it must seem strange to thinking of news taking weeks to reach somewhere by mail, but then again for some it must of been strange ten years ago to think that they would some day be able to see who they were talking to on the phone...

The shrinking world is just another opportunity for us to navigate in this journey called life...
